With International Equal Pay Day being celebrated on the 18th of September, 62% of adults think there are large gaps in pay to women compared to men. 19% of those think there are huge gaps.

39% of respondents agree that Ireland has lower gaps in pay to women versus pay to men, compared to the rest of Europe. 11% strongly agree that Ireland has lower gaps.

 

  • 71% of adults think that supporting such a day as Worldwide Equal Pay Day in Ireland is important to raise awareness of pay gaps between men and women.

 

  • 20% of adults have directly experienced pay to men being higher than pay to women in equal roles. 36% have heard of such experiences from family members or friends.

 

  • 41% of adults think pay gaps are getting smaller between women and men in recent years. However, 52% think pay gaps are the same as in the recent past.
  • 12% watched the matches at work as the matches were shown on Workplace TVs. 3% of adults had employers who allowed them to watch the matches but they didn’t watch.
  • Of those who have experienced issues with lower pay to women compared to men, 50% say the gap was around 20% or lower. 20% say the gap was around 30% or lower.
